US Grade 3 - 5
Luke's grandmother knows a lot about witches. She tells him stories about them all the time. About the little girl who disappeared and then reappeared in a painting. About the boy who turned to stone and the girl who laid eggs, brown eggs. She told him all about how to recognize witches, what they looked like, how they behaved and some of the tricks they used to lure children into their traps. Then, by chance, Luke saw a witch, many witches actually. He learned of their plans to destroy all the children of England. But how will he stop them? What can he do? Please join me in reading about Luke, his grandmother and the witches of England! In this class we will talk about different traits each of the main characters of the story possesses, what synonyms and antonyms are, some important vocabulary words from the book and more. Students will be asked to read approximately 10 pages a day outside of class and we will read one or two chapters in class together. Students will be asked periodically to read in class but this is optional. Day/week 1: Chapters 1-5 (A Note About Witches through Summer Holidays) Day/week 2: Chapters 6-11 (The Meeting through The Ancient Ones) Day/week 3: Chapters 12-17 (Metamorphosis through The Plan) Day/week 4: Chapters 18-22 (In the Kitchen through It's Off to Work We Go!) *Please read chapters 1-5 before the start of the first class. **For this class, students need to be able to read at a third grade reading level or higher.
