Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
Intermediate - Advanced Level
The Two Towers is the second installment in what is widely considered the greatest fantasy epic ever written. In this five-week class, learners will participate in meaningful discussions as we read J. R. Tolkien's adventure. Book clubs are an excellent way to engage reluctant readers or help enthusiastic readers dig a little deeper. Students will need their own copy of the text to complete assigned readings before attending class.

Whether your student is on their first journey through Lord of the Rings or is an enthusiastic fan on their third re-read, this class will be full of fun for all. We will explore the text and it's themes through discussion. Class will be conducted in a casual, book club style with plenty of time for discussion. I will also read aloud important or exciting parts during class to enrich our discussion.

The Lord of the Rings is a more challenging text, so learners should be confident and experienced readers. Students should have read The Fellowship of the Ring before beginning this class.
Learning Goals
Students will sharpen their literacy skills and foster their love of reading! We will discuss and deepen student understanding of literary elements such as plot, character development, and theme.

Almost one year on Outschool and loving every minute of it!

I am passionate about building authentic positive relationships with my students. By modeling healthy relationships and creating a safe place for them to flourish, I hope to give my students life skills beyond the content I teach. I create safe, inviting spaces for kids to build relationships with other students, practicing the skills of empathy in the context of a caring community.

My husband and I have two daughters and two dogs. I love to read, bake, and knit (but not all at the same time!). I can't wait to see you in class!
