This is a story about a trumpeter swan named Louis who was born without a voice. Louis grows up mute and falls in love but struggles to find a way to communicate his feelings. It is not until Louis overcomes this difficulty by learning to play a trumpet in order to impress a beautiful swan named Serena. Join me as we watch Louis find his voice and free his feelings. This class will help your child develop their reading, vocabulary, book analysis and socializing skills. Each lesson we will learn new vocabulary words, talk about setting, cause and effect, and use different strategies for reading comprehension. Students will be asked to read approximately 10 pages a day outside of class and should be ready to discuss topics from the assigned text. If time allows, we may read aloud/along in class but this is optional. Weekly schedule. Meets once per week. Week 1: Chapters 1-6* Week 2: Chapters 7-12 Week 3: Chapters 13-16 Week 4: Chapters 17-21 *Please read chapters 1-6 prior to our first class. ⭐ Students should be able to independently read at a third grade level or higher for this class. ⭐ A digital or hard copy of the book “The Trumpet of the Swan” by E.B. White is required. ⭐Students should read chapter assignments BEFORE the start of each class to be able to participate in the full discussion. This includes reading chapters 1-6 prior to the first class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have my bachelors degree in special education plus additional course work for art and TESOL (teaching English as a second language). I have been working with children for more than 20 years including as a certified teacher and a homeschool mom. I have worked with a wide variety of age groups and and taught a variety of subjects including severe-profound special education preschool, honors high school and everything in between. But my specialties are drawing, brick building classes, elementary literacy, special education and baking. I even own small bakery!
My husband and I have three children. We enjoy camping, hiking, going to the park and playing board games as a family. My personal hobbies include baking, reading, painting, drawing and crocheting.
