In this five week course, students will participate in engaging discussion to sharpen their literacy skills. Neal Shusterman's third and final installment in the Arc of a Scythe series is a thrilling read that's sure to capture any reader.

Lesson 1: Chapters 1-11
Discussion will focus on setting.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Lesson 2: Chapters 12-21
Discussion will focus on character development.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Lesson 3: Chapters 22-31
Discussion will focus on the theme of corruption.
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Lesson 4: Chapters 32-41
Focus on plot and predictions. After discussing this section, we will predict what we think will happen next.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Lesson 5: Chapters 42-end
Focus on themes developed through the story: Death gives life meaning; what makes us human; right/wrong
  • Students will sharpen their literacy skills while fostering their love of reading.
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class

Details: Each class will require independent reading covering about 100 pages of text. This book is a real page turner, so many students may have a hard time stopping!
Students should have read books one and two: Scythe and Thunderhead.
A copy of The Toll.
