⭐️ Reminder: This is a Self-Paced class. There are no live lessons. ⭐️

Learning to read using good literature is the key to success with students!

My Book Club will use The Land of Roar as a tool to engage your child in a great story while learning important reading skills that can be transferred to any book or passage.

1️⃣ My # 1 goal with all books is to encourage a love of stories and reading. Therefore, I try not to 'overteach" a book. You must find the right balance of instruction and immersion. That is what I have done to turn student after student into life-long readers.

2️⃣ Goal # 2 is to focus on just one or two reading skills throughout the book but to continually present and introduce additional skills through my video lessons and teaching. By the end of each Book Club, students have had numerous reading skills presented to them, and over time- with multiple book clubs with me, they will begin to internalize these skills without even realizing what they are doing! Learning at its finest!!

⭐️ See the Syllabus for exact details!⭐️

Land of Roar is a 4th/5th grade level book. The accompanying assignments reflect this. It is a step-up from some of my other book clubs, such as Charlotte's Web.

🎯 In The Land of Roar, students will focus on finding answers (evidence) in text and inferring what is happening or what characters are planning based on the clues in the text. I use easy question sets and fun digital activities so that by the end of the book these skills are super easy!

⭐️ In addition, the students can practice answering questions in complete sentences while restating the question.

⭐️ The class is divided into three weeks, covering 1/3 of the book each week. (about 100 pgs) As a self-paced class, students can complete the book as quickly or over an extended period of time. Just keep in mind, your child will only have access to me for a 3-week period.

⭐️ Each week has 2-3 video lessons, pencil/paper work to be completed, and a review digital game.

⭐️ I always read the first chapter aloud and post the video to week one. It is optional, but I love getting students started on the book and helping them set the stage for the story.

⏰ Class Structure:
Classes always begin with a video from me explaining the class and assignments. Students will download and print the class book packet.

In the book packet, I have included a weekly planner to help the students keep track of their work.

Additional videos and class posts will also be there to keep students on track and understand what is expected of them.

Answer keys are provided for all written work. Videos are reserved for discussion of the reading.

🎯 Class Expectations:
Students should complete the work assigned and reach out to me if there are any questions. Students that are wanting to earn a grade for the course must upload their completed work by the end of the class. All work is self-checking or checked while watching a video. If, your child does not desire a grade, then their work does not need to be submitted.

🐶 My Classroom and Teaching Style:

My goal is to make learning as happy 🥳 and stress-free as possible! My classroom is fast-paced and interactive. It is a kind, caring, supportive, productive, silly, and just a little bit crazy kind of space! I want students to love class and enjoy showing up to learn with me. Students can only learn when they feel comfortable and safe! I provide that environment for my students, then watch as their learning soars! I have a personality- and I let that shine through on my self-paced course videos! I want the students to feel like they just had a live class with me. 😊
Learning Goals
Students will enjoy and understand the book The Land of Roar. Students will improve their reading skills for finding evidence in text and making inferences.
