Students will need a copy of the book The Green Ember by S.D. Smith. The assigned chapters must be read or listened to BEFORE class. Students can use their own books, library books, ebook, or even listen to the audio book. If listening to the audiobook, it is highly recommended that student reads independently to develop their own reading comprehension and competency.
S.D. Smith is skilled at hooking the reader in and leaving you longing for “just one more chapter!” The themes are positive and uplifting. The characters face challenges they must overcome and strife that is very real, yet they persist in doing what is right. Your students will be transported to a world where a tiny rabbit can overcome even wolves and birds of prey, hoping with Heather and Picket that good WILL overcome!

There is no gore, no foul language, nothing objectionable. The main characters are incredibly inspiring and courageous. The tale is deeply adventurous, full of intrigue and suspense, but not frightening. It is truly a delightful read, and will leave your student eagerly awaiting the next book!
