Class Experience

In this multi-day course, students will read Judy Blume's book Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. Students will get to know Peter and his little brother Fudge in this first book of the classic Fudge series! This book was my favorite when I was 8-12 years old and I read it countless times! We will learn, laugh, and be entertained as we read this chapter book together.

Students will also be asked to read 2 assigned chapters on their own at home before each class. We will start each class off by discussing what we've read on our own and then read another chapter together in class. Students will get the opportunity to read a part of the chapter aloud in class, while I join in on the reading as well. We will learn new vocabulary words and talk about the plot and setting of the book. We will talk about our favorite parts of the book and traits of the main characters. Students will get familiar with the basics of chapter books during this course. We will practice expressing our thoughts on characters and our summarizing skills.

Class 1: Homework- Please read chapters 1 & 2 before attending class.
We will read chapter 3 together.

Class 2: Homework- Please read chapters 4 & 5 before class.
We will read chapter 6 together.

Class 3: Homework: Please read chapters 7 & 8 before class.
We will read chapter 9 together.

Class 4: Homework: Please make your prediction on the ending of the book. You can write a few sentences/paragraph on how you think the novel will end and bring to class.
We will read chapter 10 together!

Learning Goals

Students will have a basic understanding of how to summarize chapters in their own words. We will also answer comprehension questions and learn some new words. Students will be able to make predictions and share their feelings with one another.
