This book club will consist of listening to author read alouds, participating in shared discussions, and researching various sharks.
Class experience
US Grade 2 - 4
During this multi-day class, we will read the book "I Survived the Shark Attacks of 1916," written by Lauren Tarshis. We will begin each class by reviewing the previous chapters read, and we will read at least one chapter per meeting together. We will pause throughout the reading to discuss the characters, events, and plot of the story. I believe children learn best by being an active participant. Students will improve their reading comprehension skills. Students will learn about different shark species and create a lapbook to display the information on. Students will expand upon others thoughts and ideas through discussions.
Homework Offered
A small amount of independent reading will be required by each student. This can be done by listening to the authors read alouds or it can be done independently. Approximately 4 chapters of reading will be required by each student.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class

Students will need a copy of the book "I Survived the Shark Attacks of 1916." A printer will be required for printing items for our lapbooks. In addition, one standard MANILLA folder, a pencil, scissors, crayons or colored pencils, and a glue stick will be necessary for the class.
This book does include "shark attack" scenes. The recommended age level for this book is approximately 7-11 years old.
