US Grade 3 - 5
Does your child enjoy reading? Would they like to hear about other books and share with others what they are reading? Let's get your child in some new reading adventures! In this on-going book club we will share books based on a different genre each week. Each student will share their book and tell us about the characters, the problem and solution and their favorite parts of the story. After each student has shared about their book, fellow classmates may ask questions about the book. As this is an on-going class, students may drop in anytime! Every 10 weeks the book genre will start over: Week of September 4: Realistic Fiction Week of September 11: Mystery Week of September 18: Informational Week of September 25: Fantasy Week of October 2: Biography/Autobiography Week of October 9: Poetry Week of October 16: Historical Fiction Week of October 23: Fairy Tale/ Folk Tale Week of October 30: Adventure Week of November 6: Science Fiction/Graphic Novel Week of November 13: Realistic Fiction Week of November 20: *NO CLASS* Week of November 27: Mystery Week of December 4: Informational Week of December 11: Fantasy Week of December 18: *NO CLASS* Week of December 25: *NO CLASS* Week of January 1: Biography/Autobiography Week of January 8: Poetry Week of January 15: Historical Fiction Week of January 22: Fairy Tale/Folk Tale Week of January 29: Adventure Week of February 5: Science Fiction/Graphic Novel Week of February 12: Realistic Fiction Week of February 19: Mystery Week of February 26: Informational Week of March 5: Fantasy Week of March 12: *NO CLASS* Week of March 19: Biography/Autobiography Week of March 26: Poetry Week of April 2: Historical Fiction Week of April 9: Fairy Tale/ Folk Tale Week of April 16: Adventure

Teacher expertise and credentials
Alaska Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Welcome! I am a certified K-8 Educator with a Reading endorsement as well as being trained in the Orton Gillingham approach and in LETRS, the Science of Reading. I have 20 years of teaching experience, including teaching K/1, Classroom Support/Reading Specialist, Homeschool Support Teacher and I homeschooled 2 of my children from grades 1-8. I continue to seek new opportunities to grow and learn in my field.
My passion is guiding students into becoming confident, independent lifelong readers. I believe in building up children in their confidence and successes. Taking time with children so they can build their skills to become successful is important. Finding different avenues and ways to teach and reach students is something I value as an educator. My favorite moments in teaching include seeing the 'aha' moments in students when something clicks for them!
I fulfilled a lifelong dream of mine traveling to New Zealand a few years ago with my family for several weeks. What a gift it was to spend time with family and see a new beautiful area of the world!
I look forward to getting to know your student and being a part of their journey in learning!
