I graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Elementary Education and hold a teaching certificate with an extra certification in middle level English. I have taught Language Arts and Social Studies in the public school classroom as well as after school and summer reading programs. I love supporting learners as they work on reading comprehension strategies. In my physical classroom I enjoyed read alouds, book clubs, novel studies, and more. I am passionate about sharing quality literature with students as they grow as lovers of reading and contributors of the world!
Students will have weekly reading assignments as outlined in the course description. Reading should take approximately 20 minutes a day 5-6 days/week.
1 file available upon enrollmentStudents will need a copy of "Out of My Mind" by Sharon M. Draper. A "stop and jot" printable handout will be sent out prior to our first meeting.

"Out of My Mind" explores many topics including how people react to others' differences, bullying, acceptance, and more. As we discuss various topics and themes of the book, students are required to show respect for the thoughts and opinions of others. The teacher will help guide the conversation and enforce agreed upon conversational etiquette expectations throughout the book club.
