Class Experience
In this class, we will be discussing whatever book you choose! If you've been wanting to read a book but feel a bit intimidated or annoyed with it, I will break it down so that you can actually enjoy the process! Let's get through that reading list together. No matter what kind of book you have, I can help you see just how awesome any book can be. This class is broken down so that we will be reading (independently at home) and discussing the story as we go along. We will be talking about the different aspects of the book as well as the structure of the story, including the growth of the characters and the arc that the story takes. We will discuss character archetypes, as well as the elements of stories, including inciting incidents and turning points. If there are any specific themes presented in the story, we will also be discussing those. As a book editor and writing coach, students will have a professional book nerd in their corner to help them fully grasp the ideas and concepts introduced by the author they choose. Not sure what story structure was used? Let's chart it out! Want to really see what it means for a character to have growth? Let's break it down! What are character archetypes? Let's list them out along with their characteristics. Printable resources are available for many literary topics and discussions will lead us the rest of the way. Would we suggest this story to a friend? Does the author attain a goal by telling these stories? Were we scared? Would we share these tales around a campfire? Just a few of the things we will be talking about as the story unfolds! All students are asked to have their cameras on as it helps keep students engaged and encourages conversation.
