With only a penknife, ball of cord, forty dollars, and flint & steel, Sam intends to survive on his own in the Catskills Mountains. Join us for this classic tale of courage, danger, and independence. Boys, especially, will love this club! Sam Gribley is terribly unhappy living in New York City with his family, so he runs away to the Catskill Mountains to live in the woods—all by himself. With only a penknife, a ball of cord, forty dollars, and some flint and steel, he intends to survive on his own. Sam learns about courage, danger, and independence during his year in the wilderness, a year that changes his life forever. Chapters will be assigned to be read ahead of time, before class. There are 22 chapters in this book. The book is also available as an audiobook! All of class time will be dedicated to discussing the books, applying critical thinking, discussing characters, plot, and other literary aspects, etc, and ending with a fun game, all related to the book. Our last class will be a book party! Snacks are welcome and encouraged! I am creating book clubs for each book in the series! Stay tuned! Week 1 - Please read chapters 1-5 BEFORE class! Week 2 - Please read chapters 6-10 BEFORE class! Week 3 - Please read chapters 11-15 BEFORE class! Week 4 - Please read chapters 16-20 BEFORE class! Week 5 - Please read chapters 21-22 BEFORE class!
