Class Experience

Students will need to read on their own time before each weekly class:
"Little House on the Prairie" by Laura Ingalls Wilder
"These Happy Golden Years" by Laura Ingalls Wilder
"The First Four Years" by Laura Ingalls Wilder
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
These books are written from a pioneer's prospective and include some negative thoughts towards Native Americans. I believe that the books move Laura and her mother's negative thoughts towards Native Americans in a healthier direction following the example of Laura's father and that should be highlighted. My goal with addressing this would be a to show how prejudice can develop easily when misunderstanding and misinformation is present.
