Book Club: Let's Talk Books! (High School)

Reading is meant to be a social encounter. Someone writes those words and someone reads them. Our social interaction can end there but it really shouldn't. Once that book is read, we should talk about it with others. Join me for that chat.

Practice participating in meaningful discussions about books.
Learn how to pick books that are just right for you.
I've been a Humanities and Literature teacher for over two decades and facilitating these kinds of discussions is a skill in which I am well trained and experienced.
You are responsible for reading books but I do not assign you books.
A copy of your book, something to write in and something to write with.
Sticky notes are always helpful when discussing and analyzing a book.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
informal assessment
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Because I will not know ahead of time what books students are reading and desiring to discuss I will not be able to anticipate what content may be brought up during a meeting. However, please know that I've been a teacher for over two decades and facilitating these kinds of discussions is a skill in which I am well trained and experienced. While some books that students want to discuss may contain some difficult subject matter, I'll make certain that all students feel comfortable with the discussion at all times and that everything discussed is age and developmentally appropriate for the students present.
