From the Amazon website: For María Isabel Salazar López, the hardest thing about being the new girl in school is that the teacher doesn't call her by her real name. "We already have two Marías in this class," says her teacher. "Why don't we call you Mary instead?" But María Isabel has been named for her Papá's mother and for Chabela, her beloved Puerto Rican grandmother. Can she find a way to make her teacher see that if she loses her name, she's lost the most important part of herself? We will read this book IN SPANISH and discuss the characters and themes, vocabulary and elements of literature within the book. Students will be expected to read between classes!!! Week 1: Introduction, about the author and introduction to the characters Week 2: pages 1-20 Week 3: pages 20-40 Week 4: pages 40-65 Week 5: conclusions and take-away Please purchase the book from Amazon or your local book retailer: Me llamo María Isabel https://www.amazon.com/dp/0689810997/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_C48A91QW4SQVETB8GTPX?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 PRIVATE CLASS: Follow instructions in email. Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from College of Notre Dame of Maryland
I’m Nicole and I taught in the local public school system for several years! I was certified to teach Spanish, English, and Special Education K-12 and taught Spanish levels 1 through AP and English classes in general and self-contained classrooms. I left the public school system to homeschool my three children - ages 7, 10 and 12 - and together we learn and explore! I've traveled to Honduras and to Spain and I love teaching Spanish, language/grammar and culture! I also have extensive experience with special needs and work part time as a family consultant to families with children with Autism in Maryland.
I believe that understanding the mechanics of language is absolutely essential in good writing and in second-language acquisition. I especially enjoy teaching early reading/phonics/phonemic awareness, English grammar and Spanish grammar! I teach Spanish immersion classes where we are constantly laughing and learning and social skills groups where students develop relationships with peers around the world!
I'm happy to schedule one:one classes/tutoring by request. Please message me with questions!
