Description

Class Experience

Being introduced to the series from my own son who "hated reading", I dove into the series myself, loved them (even as an adult), and thus introduced them to kids. As a previous elementary school librarian, this was a series that couldn't stay on my shelves!

As a librarian, much of my day was finding the perfect book for each child. For some, the love of reading doesn't come naturally, so through relationships, intuition, and extensive personal reading of kids' literature, I found each kiddo's gem of a book. It was and continues to be my passion--to inspire the love of reading.
Students will read at home ready to discuss each week in the book club. 1 book will be read before every class.

To fully benefit from each class and discussion the book must have been read before the start of each class.

Reading is required before the first class and students are required to have a copy of the book discussed. Students are welcome to access the work by audio, print, or digital copy.

Per Common Sense Media.org
https://www.commonsensemedia.org/book-reviews/i-survived-series
"Parents need to know that Lauren Tarshis's I Survived series is captivating, emotional, and historically accurate. The kids in these stories face scary situations in their first-person accounts of the disasters; they're often alone, hurt, and in an unfamiliar place. But because almost everyone around them is trying to help the kids survive or find their parent, once the worst is over, the overall feeling from the books is optimistic. The end of each story of survival gives a glimpse into the post-disaster life of the family and ends with an upbeat note."

****** In each class, a short video clip will be shown about the true historical event and/or disaster. This allows for some background knowledge and understanding of the story in the novel.
