The text moves faster than you might expect. If your child likes to read, they will not have any trouble keeping up with the reading assignments.Class Experience
US Grade 3 - 6
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the final installment of a series full of wonder, magic, and adventure. In this five-week class, learners will participate in meaningful discussions and engaging activities as we read J. K. Rowling's seventh novel in the world of Harry Potter. Book clubs are an excellent way to engage reluctant readers or help enthusiastic readers dig a little deeper. Students will need their own copy of the text to complete assigned readings before attending class. Student should have already read the first six Harry Potter books before enrolling in this course. Whether your student is going through the books for the first time or is an enthusiastic fan on their third re-read, this class will be full of fun for all. We will explore the text and it's themes through discussion and a variety of engaging critical thinking activities. Class will be conducted in a casual, book club style with plenty of time for discussion. I will also read aloud important or exciting parts during class to enrich our discussion. The reading schedule will be as follows: Lesson 1: chapters 1-7 Discussion and activities will focus on tone: How has Rowling's style changed in this book? The stakes are so much higher and Harry often feels lost and hopeless. How are the writing and setting different? Lesson 2: chapters 8-14 Focus on character: How does learning secrets about Dumbledore cause Harry to doubt? Lesson 3: chapters 15-23 Focus on the theme of friendship: How does losing the trust and support of Ron effect both Harry and Hermione? Lesson 4: chapters 24-30 Focus on plot and predictions. Harry has to chose between focusing on horcruxes or hallows. What temptation is he fighting? Lesson 5: chapters 31- epilogue (finish book) Focus on themes developed through the series: sacrifice, love, friendship, and bravery.
Learning Goals
Students will sharpen their literacy skills and foster their love of reading!

Parental Guidance
The last installment in the Harry Potter series is, like the rest of the books, a hopeful story of good triumphing over evil. However, the plot does get more scary as Harry gets older and the challenges of each story become larger.
