Homework
1 hour per week. On the first day of class, I will be posting the "cover page" to their reading journal. Every day, students will add to their journal by completing the posted activities. At the end of the course, students will have a completed portfolio of work.

US Grade 1 - 3
Embark on a literary journey filled with excitement and learning in our Geronimo Stilton Book Club Adventure! This FLEX course invites students to dive into the captivating world of Geronimo Stilton through the second book of the series, "The Curse of the Cheese Pyramid." 

As we follow the adventures of the intrepid mouse journalist, Geronimo Stilton, students will enhance their reading comprehension, vocabulary, literacy skills, language arts, writing, and grammar through engaging and entertaining activities.

Throughout the book club sessions, students will delve into comprehension exercises that encourage thoughtful analysis of the storyline, characters, and themes. Vocabulary enrichment activities will introduce new words in a fun and contextually relevant manner, expanding the students' language skills. Literacy exercises will focus on developing critical reading and interpretation skills, fostering a deeper connection with the narrative. 

Grammar lessons will be seamlessly integrated into the exploration of the book, offering practical applications of grammatical concepts found within the text. 

The Geronimo Stilton Book Club Adventure is not just a reading experience; it's a comprehensive journey that combines the joy of storytelling with the development of essential language arts skills. Join us as we unlock the treasures of literacy and imagination with Geronimo Stilton!

This FLEX class covers the second book of the Geronimo Stilton series: The Curse of the Cheese Pyramid. 

On the first day of class, I will be posting the "cover page" to their reading journal. Every day, students will add to their journal by completing the posted activities. At the end of the course, students will have a completed portfolio of work. 

Students will read 2-3 chapters (10-20 pages) each day. However, please keep in mind that this is a FLEX course, so your learner can read the book at your own pace and check-in when you're ready to complete the activities.  

I will be posting reading comprehension and vocabulary activities for each day's assigned reading along with a short pre-recorded video. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, we will be focusing on a reading skill, such as summarizing or inferences. On Thursdays, we will focus on a grammar skill. On Fridays, we will practice writing. 

Group discussion questions will also be utilized to promote interactions between learners and the teacher. 

This course incorporates fun learning activities to promote engagement and to get the learners excited about reading! Some examples may include crosswords, scavenger hunts, digital activities, word searches, and more!

Students do not have to read the book before the first class.

Course Schedule:

Week 1:
    Day 1: Ch. 1-3; Reading comprehension, vocab and narrative elements
    Day 2: Ch. 4-6; Reading comprehension, vocab and point of view
    Day 3: Ch. 7-9; Reading comprehension, vocab and main idea
    Day 4: Ch. 10-12; Reading comprehension, vocab and verbs
    Day 5: Ch. 13-14; Reading comprehension, vocab and descriptive writing

Week 2:
    Day 1: Ch. 15-17; Reading comprehension, vocab and sensory images
    Day 2: Ch. 18-20; Reading comprehension, vocab and making connections
    Day 3: Ch. 21-23; Reading comprehension, vocab and character traits
    Day 4: Ch. 24-25; Reading comprehension, vocab and prefixes/suffixes
    Day 5: Review; Reading comprehension, vocab and persuasive paragraph

**Learners need their own copy of the book for this course.

We have experience working with learners of all abilities, including ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ASD and more. Learners of all abilities are welcomed and encouraged to join us in class. Please contact us for more information.
Parental Guidance
Students will need a copy of the book for this course. Students or parents should have access to a printer to print daily activities from the classroom. Alternatively, students can use a dedicated notebook at home. Students will occasionally need to access third-party websites: -Genail.ly: Students will be given a link in the Outschool classroom for a custom-made online activity to practice a skill from class, such as matching vocabulary words to their definitions or completing a reading comprehension activity. Students do not have to have an account. Students should click the link and complete the activity. -Blooket: Students will be given a link in the Outschool classroom for a custom-made online game to practice a skill from class. Students do not have to have an account. -Educandy: Students may need to access the Educandy website: www.educandy.com and enter an activity code given in the Outschool classroom by the teacher. This will open an activity where students can practice spelling, vocabulary or other ELA skills by playing different games set up by the teacher. Examples of the games: anagrams, matching, multiple choice, word search, crossword games.

This course was created by and used with permission from Ms. Ashley. Ms. Ashley graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s degree, majoring in both education and mathematics. Later, she went on to also earn a TESOL teacher’s certificate. Ms. Ashley currently homeschools all five of her children. She has taught over 10,000+ virtual classes in all subjects over several years on different platforms. She has 18+ years of tutoring/teaching experience, both virtual and in-person, as well as 16 years+ of experience as a volunteer teacher, tutor, and coach in schools and classrooms. In addition to teaching, Ms. Ashley is part of curriculum development and review team for an online ELA and math teaching/tutoring company, where she also serves as a Learning Partner and Academic Advisor for incoming students. Other related experience includes ELA and math tutoring the University of Connecticut Student Center, substitute teaching in the public school system and working for five years as a Financial Controller of a litigation support firm with offices across the United States. Ms. Ashley truly values each and every student, and she hopes to help them to find a love of learning.
