1 hour per week. On the first day of class, I will be posting the "cover page" to their reading journal. Every day, students will add to their journal by completing the posted activities. At the end of the course, students will have a completed portfolio of work.

Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 3
Embark on a literary journey filled with excitement and learning in our Geronimo Stilton Book Club Adventure! This 4-week course invites students to dive into the captivating world of Geronimo Stilton through the first book of the series, "Lost Treasure of the Emerald Eye." As we follow the adventures of the intrepid mouse journalist, Geronimo Stilton, students will not only discover the thrill of a treasure hunt but also enhance their reading comprehension, vocabulary, literacy skills, language arts, writing, and grammar through engaging and entertaining activities.

Throughout the book club sessions, students will delve into comprehension exercises that encourage thoughtful analysis of the storyline, characters, and themes. Vocabulary enrichment activities will introduce new words in a fun and contextually relevant manner, expanding the students' language skills. Literacy exercises will focus on developing critical reading and interpretation skills, fostering a deeper connection with the narrative. 

Grammar lessons will be seamlessly integrated into the exploration of the book, offering practical applications of grammatical concepts found within the text. 

The Geronimo Stilton Book Club Adventure is not just a reading experience; it's a comprehensive journey that combines the joy of storytelling with the development of essential language arts skills. Join us as we unlock the treasures of literacy and imagination with Geronimo Stilton!

This class covers the first book of the Geronimo Stilton series: Lost Treasure of the Emerald Eye. 

On the first day of class, I will be posting the "cover page" to their reading journal. Every day, students will add to their journal by completing the posted activities. At the end of the course, students will have a completed portfolio of work. 

Students will read 5-9 chapters (about 30 pages) each week. 

Group discussion questions will also be utilized to promote interactions between learners and the teacher. 

This course incorporates fun learning activities to promote engagement and to get the learners excited about reading! Some examples may include crosswords, scavenger hunts, digital activities, word searches, and more!

Students should read the assigned reading before each class. 

Course Schedule:

Week 1:
Ch. 1-9: Reading comprehension, vocab, inferences, cause and effect, figurative language

Week 2:
Ch. 10-15: Reading comprehension, vocab, noun hunt, how-to writing

Week 3:
Ch. 16-21: Reading comprehension, vocab, visualization and summarization

Week 4:
Ch. 22-27: Reading comprehension, vocab, adjectives, fantasy vs. realism, letter writing


**Learners need their own copy of the book for this course.

We have experience working with learners of all abilities, including ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ASD and more. Learners of all abilities are welcomed and encouraged to join us in class. Please contact us for more information.

Students will need a copy of the book for this course. Students or parents should have access to a printer to print daily activities from the classroom. Alternatively, students can use a dedicated notebook at home.

This course was created by and used with permission from Ms. Ashley. Ms. Ashley graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s degree, majoring in both education and mathematics. Later, she went on to also earn a TESOL teacher’s certificate. Ms. Ashley currently homeschools all five of her children. She has taught over 10,000+ virtual classes in all subjects over several years on different platforms. She has 18+ years of tutoring/teaching experience, both virtual and in-person, as well as 16 years+ of experience as a volunteer teacher, tutor, and coach in schools and classrooms. In addition to teaching, Ms. Ashley is part of curriculum development and review team for an online ELA and math teaching/tutoring company, where she also serves as a Learning Partner and Academic Advisor for incoming students. Other related experience includes ELA and math tutoring the University of Connecticut Student Center, substitute teaching in the public school system and working for five years as a Financial Controller of a litigation support firm with offices across the United States. Ms. Ashley truly values each and every student, and she hopes to help them to find a love of learning.
