Class Experience
In this ongoing book club, students will independently read two books from author Jennifer Nielsen. Each book should take about three weeks to read. We will focus on reading around 3 chapters for 5 days per week. We will then discuss the chapters read and complete fun activities about the book each week. This book club motivates students to read all week long! Students will independently read the assigned book title each week (schedule below) outside of class. During the first five minutes...
This class is taught in English.
Get students excited to read books and discuss books each week.
Students will independently read about 15 chapters from home each week. The time commitment is based on each student and their reading ability. The in-class time commitment is 30 minutes.
Students will need to get the books "A Night Divided" and "The False Prince" by Jennifer Nielsen. I recommend borrowing the books from the library, but if you prefer to buy them I am attaching an Amazon Link to the books. Amazon Link: "A Night Divided" https://amzn.to/3ZRQan1 "The False Prince" https://amzn.to/3XPzBpQ *Please note: I am an Affiliate and will make a small commission, at no extra cost to you, if you purchase a book using this link.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Make sure you feel these books are age-appropriate for your child before continuing with this course. Check out https://www.commonsensemedia.org/book-reviews/a-night-divided. The Night divided is a historical fiction book about the division of a family during the Cold War in East and West Berlin. It has a rating for some violence and one drinking scene in the story that might be too much for some students. Check out https://www.commonsensemedia.org/book-reviews/the-false-prince-the-ascendance-trilogy-book-1. The False Prince is a book about a boy named Sage who was an orphan who lies and steals to survive his difficult life. There is a murder at the beginning of the book along with a couple of other violent scenes. For our third book, we will decide between two books. Our other book options include The Runaway King which is the next book in the False Prince series. https://www.commonsensemedia.org/book-reviews/the-runaway-king-the-ascendance-trilogy-book-2 or Words on Fire https://www.commonsensemedia.org/book-reviews/words-on-fire
