Come tour the world through great books! Join me and other classmates from all over the planet as we read exciting stories about great adventures and the people who experienced them. In this series, we’ll read one book together over the course of 4 weeks, giving you time to read and dive into the story. Included in our book club will be: -Weekly live book discussion -An engaging presentation all about the author -Intriguing background information highlighting locations, characters, and historical context -Appropriate video tie-ins -In-class dramatic readings -Vocabulary review -Weekly creative projects such as making hot chocolate and painting like an apprentice -Optional hands-on activities such as flipbooks, posters, memes, and other fun projects 𝘐, 𝘑𝘶𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘦 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘫𝘢 is a Newbury Award winner. It tells the story of a 17th-Century Spanish slave who was immortalized in painter Diego Velazquez’s painting, "Portrait of Juan de Pareja". Throughout his time as the painter’s slave, Juan experiences both harrowing and exciting adventures, and we get to come along! You can choose to read or listen to an audio version of the book. We’ll split each book into 4 sections and read one section per week. For 𝘐, 𝘑𝘶𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘦 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘫𝘢, our schedule will look like this: Session/Week One: In-class intro (you do not have to read anything before our first session) Session/Week Two: Come to class having read Chapters 1-5 Session/Week Three: Come to class having read Chapters 6-10 Session/Week Four: Come to class having read Chapters 11-15 Love reading? First Day Adventure in Learning and Class Discussion
During the first live meeting, I will be introducing you to the author and the book, focusing on culture, history, and the geography covered in the story. You don't need to have any of 𝘐, 𝘑𝘶𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘦 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘫𝘢 read yet, but feel free to start it if you like.

Discussing Chapters 1-5
During the live meeting, we will discuss Chapters 1-5 using conversational Socratic method. We will also enjoy delicious cups of hot chocolate together!

During the live meeting, we will discuss Chapters 6-10 using conversational Socratic method. We will also discuss the week’s exciting drawing project!
