In this 4-week book club, learners will delve into Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, as they discover the joy and adventure that reading can bring. This is a story of ultimate adventure and survival as a 13-year-old boy finds himself suddenly alone in the Canadian wilderness with only a hatchet to his mother gave him. Each week, students will read the assigned chapters (or listen on audio book). There will be a video posted each week in the classroom featuring the teacher's comprehension, discussion...
Learners will need a copy of Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, may also use audio book or digital format.
No live meetings, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
This novel deals with some topics that may be objectionable to some, but it is written in an age-appropriate context. The main character has the harrowing experience of being in a plane crash due to the pilot suffering from a heart attack. In his quest to survive, the main character must kill wild animals. Another layer of the story unfolds as the main character is also dealing with his feelings about his parents' divorce. I will post a Kahoot link at the end of each week to optional games or quizzes based on that week's reading.
