This Reading Club is dedicated to reading Frank Beddor's "Looking Glass Wars". We will be meeting for 45 minutes once a week for 14 weeks. What if "Alice in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass" were exaggerated lies about a real, parralel world? If your student loves fantasy and science fiction, you are in the right place. The Looking Glass Wars - Book 1. We will be reading the first book of the Looking Glass Wars Trilogy - The Looks Glass Wars. As we read, students will also be learning effective questioning and discussion skills. Using a pacing guide and guided discussion/reading questions, students will learn and perfect strong reading and discussion skills that they will use again and again throughout their lives. As we read, we will be looking at the differing points of view as we compare and contrast "Looking Glass Wars" and Lewis Carrol's "Alice in Wonderland." The key questions we will ask as we read are "How are we impacted by other people's perception of us? How are others impacted by how we see them and what we say about them?" The beauty of this is that students will be immersed in a fantastic, engaging story while they do it! We will also look at the art created for the text and discuss how it affects our reading and understanding of the novel. The chapters in this awesome book are shorter; so the story moves quickly. Students will use the weekly reading guide to record their thoughts as they engage with the novel. Below is the reading schedule for the class. Week 1 - Prologue, Chapters 1-6 Week 2 - Chapters 7-10 Week 3 - Chapters 11-13 Week 4 - Chapters 14-15 Week 5 - Chapters 16-18 Week 6 - Chapters 19-22 Week 7 - Chapters 23-26 Week 8 - Chapters 27-30 Week 9 - Chapters 31-33 Week 10 - Chapters 34-38 Week 11 - Chapters 39-43 Week 12 - Chapters 44 - 47 Week 13 - Chapters 48 - 51 Week 14 - Chapters 52 - 56 Please know that any and every Book Club class that I teach can be made into a private homeschool club during school hours.
