Book Club Classic: The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton

This class will help students with reading comprehension and critical thinking skills.

Reading homework is assigned as we will not be reading the entire book during class.   The schedule is as follows:

Week One:  
During the first class we will discuss the author and take turns reading the first Chapter.  We will also go over the outline of their personalized reading journal (which will be sent to them upon enrollment).  Students will then read Chapters 2-4 on their own.   

Week Two: 
We will read Chapter 5 together and then have a discussion.  Students will read Chapters 6-8 on their own.

Week Three:
We will take turns reading Chapter 9 together and then students will read Chapters 10-11 on their own.  

Week Four:  
We will take turns reading Chapter 12 and we will have a discussion regarding the entire book.  

Questions will be posted in the classroom throughout the last 3 weeks (no questions before the first class/week one) that will relate to the chapters being read.  

35 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
