Description
Class Experience
Students will learn to build their reading comprehension skills through writing and sharing their summaries of the story Charlotte's Web. They will gain confidence through sharing what they have discovered in their reading with the group. They will learn about character development, prediction, character development, plots, themes and relating the text to themselves and the world around them.
I am a certified teacher for elementary school and taught in the classroom for 2 years. I am now a home school mom to my son. He is going into 6th grade this year!
There will be homework each week based on the reading. The students will have chapters assigned to read each week. The students should write a short summary of what they have read, list the characters and a few details about the characters, list words that they may not be familiar with, and list 2 questions they have about what they read. At the end of each story we will do a fun project that will be assigned such as creating a title for their own sequel, making a song title or song for the story, creating a newspaper clipping or a movie poster.
Assigned book, paper and writing utensils. Some other supplies may be needed for projects and will be listed on the classroom page ahead of time if needed.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
While there is no grade assigned for this class, I will be asking questions and facilitating discussions of the assigned reading to show comprehension and understanding of the text.
35 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
