Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
In this book club, your daughter will get together weekly with other friends to explore different fiction books with a girl as the main character of each story. I have chosen books that have stories of girls from all different backgrounds with different challenges in their lives. These challenges could be things such as being the new girl at school, dealing with friend problems or worrying about loosing a tooth! When we come together there will be discussions about the chapters that they have read before class and working on comprehension skills such as main idea, characters, details, problems, authors purpose, etc. Chapters to read before each class will be given ahead of time. After each class, the girls will be given the next chapters to read. If someone enrolls after the start of the book, information will be given to them as to where we are so far. I feel that reading, both alone or with a group, has an impact on who we are and how we interact with the worlds around us. No matter the students’ ages, or whether it is in a small group setting or large group discussion, conversing about books tends to turn into conversations about being human. Book clubs give each learner a sense of belonging and provides connections in many ways. My ultimate goal is to design a positive, affirming experience each time we come together.

** My teaching style is organized and full of fun while being relaxed and friendly at the same time. So come be a part of my class!

The chapters we will cover will be updated weekly of every month so that students can jump in and out as they choose. After each class, the students will be given the next chapters and new learners will be provided this information upon enrollment as well.
