In this twice-a-week, four-week class we will be reading Mr. Lemoncello's Library Olympics learning a bit about the five story elements, and doing several character analysis as well as playing several games along the way. In the book, there are lots of puzzles and games that are played. We will do the same.
8 lessons//4 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1No required reading before our first classWe will go over how to keep a vocabulary journal. We will learn a little more about the author, Chris Grabenstein. We will draw a book cover for our book based on the summary read in class about the book. We will talk about story elements as well. We will talk about the mystery genre.Lesson 2We will read chapters 1 - 10We will go over our vocabulary journals. We will answer our study questions. We will talk about the characters in the story and talk about who the protagonist/s are creating an adjective character wheel. We will play a game using the title of our book.Week 2Lesson 3We will read chapters 11 - 18We will go over our vocabulary journals. We will answer our study questions. We will talk about birdwatching and play a matching game.Lesson 4We will read chapters 19 - 24We will go over our vocabulary journals. We will answer our study questions. We will talk about Robert Goddard. We will design and decorate our own paper airplane.Week 3Lesson 5We will read chapters 25 - 31We will go over our vocabulary journals. We will answer our study questions. We will be talking about the ancient library in Alexandria, Egypt. We will talk about We will be playing hangman.Lesson 6We will read chapters 32 - 3We will go over our vocabulary journals. We will answer our study questions. We will talk about geocaching. What is it? How to get started. We will solve rebus puzzles.Week 4Lesson 7We will read chapters 40 - 46We will go over our vocabulary journals. We will answer our study questions. We will talk about banned books. What is in a book that causes it to be banned? Should we ban books? Who should decide what books are banned?Lesson 8We will read chapters 47 - EpilogueWe will go over our vocabulary journals. We will answer our study questions. We will talk about the resolution of the book. We will talk about the themes and symbols of the book. We will be playing Lemoncello's Library Olympics Jeopardy.

Homework Offered
Reading the required segments assigned. Please do not read ahead so we are all on the same page in our discussions and we can enjoy the book together as a group. If you do choose to read ahead, please do not share additional information with the class until we get to that part of the book.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
