Description
Class Experience
Readers will read the novel outside of class following the schedule listed below. During class, the students will receive instruction to create a successful independent reading experience and participate in discussion that encourages critical thinking and introduces literary analysis. Meeting one will introduce the novel and define plot, characterization and theme. Reading strategies will be shared for students to successfully read the assigned chapters learners will read independently...
Students will successfully comprehend the novel, develop an understanding of different perspectives and experiences, and participate in meaningful discussions that foster social and communication skills.
As a retired, certified language arts teacher, I have led many book clubs successfully and helped students grow as readers.
Students will read approximately 40 pages between each meeting.
Each student will need a copy of the book Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. ( ISBN: 9781536214345)
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
There is some reference to alcoholism in the novel.
