Description
Class Experience
We will be discussing several aspects of storytelling, including the organization of ideas, voice, word choice, and character archetypes.
Education: BA in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Communication and minors in Philosophy and Theology from the University of St. Thomas Experience: More than 7 years as a homeschool parent, more than 30 years of being an avid reader, 3 years of writing fiction while meeting with published authors to discuss different aspects of writing and books, 6 previous high school-level classes taught on this platform in addition to several classes taught on the aspects of writing on Outschool as well as at local libraries for more than 2 years, I am also a Municipal Liaison for the NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) program
Students will need to read the following chapters before class. Week 1: "Hansel and Gretel" by the Brothers Grimm, Chapters 1 & 2 of A Tale Dark and Grimm - "Faithful Johannes," and "Hansel and Gretel" (pages 3 - 50) Week 2: Chapters 3, 4 & 5 of A Tale Dark and Grimm - "The Seven Swallows," "Brother and Sister," and "A Smile as Red as Blood" (pages 51 - 114) Week 3: Chapters 6 & 7 of A Tale Dark and Grimm - "The Three Golden Hairs" and "Hansel and Gretel and the Broken Kingdom" (pages 115 - 182) Week 4: Chapters 8 & 9 of A Tale Dark and Grimm - "Hansel and Gretel and the Dragon" and "Hansel and Gretel and Their Parents" (pages 183 - 251)
2 files available upon enrollmentStudents will need a copy of Adam Gidwitz's A Tale Dark & Grimm as well as the original Grimm version of the story which can be found in the class attachments.
45 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.
