Parental Guidance
The book is fairly non-controversial with the following exceptions: One character is portrayed as a cigarette smoker. The main character struggles with being a child of divorce with an absent father. This is balanced very well with themes of family, friendship, and home.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I'm an avid reader, and an author.
I was never so surprised in all my life as when my son told me he "just wasn't into reading" and that he thought "writing was the worst part of school." I had to think quick before he missed out on all the magic that I knew was waiting for him within the pages of books.
And so family book club was born. And then books and friends, and soon my house was overflowing with reluctant readers bouncing up and down and waiting desperately to tell Miss Tammi all their favorite bits from last week's reading.
I have spent ten years coaxing children into eager readers and confident writers. I love to watch those smiles light up when they realize there is a whole hidden world inside of books. In that world they never need to try to fit in, or please other people. In that world they are welcomed, they are wanted, and they are inspired.
