Class Experience

In this 4-week class, students will engage in a literature circle about the book "The Afterlife of Holly Chase" by Cynthia Hand. Students will need access to the book and will complete readings before coming to class. This is a modern, young-adult retelling of the famous novel "A Christmas Carol."

Each week please read the assigned section and complete the 4 Square before class. Each week will require about 120 pages of reading.

Students will need access to "The Afterlife of Holly Chase" by Cynthia Hand.

30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.

We will be reading "The Afterlife of Holly Chase" by Cynthia Hand which is a retelling of "A Christmas Carol" and includes death and ghosts.  If these topics are brought up by students in class, I will respond with objective information from the text and allow students to share their opinions. All opinions will be respected. If these topics are brought up, I will make sure the focus of the discussion stays on the literature itself, how these topics contribute to the overall theme of the story, and what the author's purpose might be to include them.
