In this ongoing book club, your daughter will get together weekly with other friends to explore different fiction books with a girl as the main character of each story. I have chosen books that have stories of girls from all different backgrounds with different challenges in their lives. These challenges could be things such as being the new girl at school, dealing with friend problems or worrying about loosing a tooth! When we come together there will be discussions about the chapters that...
*The student will work on developing and sustaining foundational language skills: listening, speaking, discussion, and thinking; oral language. *The student will work on developing comprehension skills by reading assigned texts, making predictions, making personal connections, and generate questions before, during and after reading. *The student will use text evidence to support an appropriate response. *The student will be able to describe the main character’s traits. *The student will develop an understanding of the importance of the setting. *The student will be able to describe and understand plot elements, including main events, the conflict, and the resolution. *The student will be able to discuss the author’s purpose for writing the text.

Homework Offered
Prior to each meeting of the ‘Circle of Friends’ book club, the girls will read a fun and interesting book to read ahead of the meeting for that week. *A worksheet will be available to complete after reading the assigned chapters.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
