Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there! I'm Deja Hillis, and I'm super excited to share my love for literature and writing with your child. I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor's degree in English, with an emphasis on Literature. For the past nine years, I've had the incredible joy of teaching writing, as well as all subjects in kindergarten and first grade. I've also spent a lot of time tutoring, helping students of all ages fall in love with reading and improve their writing skills.
My love of for education led me towards becoming the Founder and CEO of FaithScape Learning Pod, a faith-based microschool serving K-5 students here in Casa Grande, Arizona. Creating this space has allowed me to blend my passion for teaching, creative writing and faith, with my dedication to nurturing young minds in a supportive environment where parents have more freedom and flexibility in their child's education.
As a self-published author of three children's books, I know firsthand the magic of seeing your stories come to life. I want to inspire kids to not only love reading but also to write and publish their own books. It's such a rewarding journey, and I can't wait to guide them through it.
My teaching style is warm and nurturing, with high expectations to encourage every child to reach their full potential. As a child growing up profoundly deaf, I know just how important it is to instill confidence and faith in students and their abilities. With that being said, I believe in creating a positive and engaging learning environment where students feel both supported and challenged. Lots of laughter and plenty of positive recognition will be a part of my daily style. I look forward to sparking children's imagination and helping them discover the joy and power of storytelling through my creative writing and publishing courses!
