Parents! Don't nag your student to do their homework, I'll do it for you! Just kidding... there is no nagging in this class ... Okay, so what is body doubling, anyway?? Well, "body doubling" (working in the presence of another person to improve focus and productivity) is a proven technique of productivity.

The "body double" doesn't necessarily need to be working on the same task, but their presence can create a sense of accountability and reduce distractions.

Students can choose to work on homework, reading, or even cleaning their room, organizing, etc. Whatever that task is that they can't see to do on their own or feel they need a boost accomplishing.

- Being around others can naturally increase motivation and focus.
- Knowing someone else is nearby can create a sense of obligation to stay on task.
- The primary goal is to leverage the presence of another person to enhance productivity and overcome challenges like procrastination, difficulty starting tasks, or staying on track.
- And let's face it, it's a lot more fun than sitting in your room by yourself!

Class structure follows the Pomodoro timer style: 1 hour

5 Minute Goal Setting Session and Check-in
15 Minute Silent Work Block - I often play lofi background music or the Disney World Ambiance soundtrack from the park.
5 Minute break - Chat Session with guided conversation; usually a would you rather question, riddle, or fun chat topic. Students may get up, stretch, grab a snack, etc.
15 Minute Silent Work Block
5 Minute break - Chat Session
10 Minute Silent Work Block
5 Minute chat, check-in, and celebration!

** Parents, I learned this technique in my own body doubling group that I meet with several times a week. I desperately wished they had something like this for kids and then the idea hit me ... and here we are! These groups are really helpful and motivating while providing a strong sense of community and support. I have tried to make these classes as cost-effective as possible - I am here to guide, monitor, and motivate students, but please know, that I'm here working on my own tasks as well. Often that is homework while I make my way through my master's degree. I think it's really important, especially for high school students, to see an adult continuing education and getting a sneak peek into the commitment and responsibility of college. (Students are free to ask me any questions they have about admissions, college life, or study/homework concerns.) I will often share study habits or what I'm working on so we can grumble and relate together :)
