In this class we will be painting a pretty Eastern Blue bird. Class begins with a brief overview discussion of our scene, and from there we will move into sketching and painting! Using a step by step approach, and a variety of techniques, students will learn how to create a simple and dynamic painting, and how to use watercolor paint to its best advantage. As we sketch and paint, we will discus the process and techniques used, that go into painting this bird. I try to maintain a calm and engaging environment, emphasizing the process of creating art over the end result. I truly believe any one with an interest and willingness to learn can have a great time in this class. Materials used will be a watercolor sketchbook or paper, drawing pencil, eraser, and watercolor paint in a variety of colors, and watercolor brushes, and a paper towel or rag to wipe your brushes on. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there!
My name is Abi. My passion and expertise are in drawing and watercolor painting, but I also dabble in and have taught the basics in a few other mediums, such as acrylic painting, oil pastel, charcoal, and colored pencil.
I’ve been drawing and painting since very early childhood and have always embraced it as a part of who I am, and known it to be valuable resource in my life. A lot of my inspiration comes from the landscapes I grew up with or the feelings the weather or a book inspired in me. I believe that art is an outlet for both processing feelings or events through life, and is an underused tool to develop skills in observation and critical thinking. My teaching style is calm and centered in being a safe space and showing that the creative process can provide joy and peace. Mistakes happen, but its never the end of the world or something to be ashamed of. I'm dedicated to helping people better understand the world around them and to developing relationships to enrich life through art. I believe anyone who is interested and willing to try can become an artist.
I have been an art teacher for four years, and before that had six years of experience in support roles providing supervision and guidance to children within classroom and day-care settings.
In my free time I enjoy being outside, knitting, crocheting and am a big fiction reader. This year I hope to use my sketchbook practice to document my walks, bird sightings, and travels.
