The class will begin with me introducing myself and getting to know the students by asking them their favorite Mary I fact or question. I welcome questions and comments at any time during the class. I will begin be giving a brief summation of who Mary I was and the legacy she inherited from his father, Henry VIII, and her mother, Catherine of Aragon.

1. Only daughter of Henry the VIII and her many engagements. Princess and then not
2. What happened to Mary's mother, Catherine of Aragon, and how does it affect her? Does she ever get to see her mother again? Why the need to the separation?
3. Mary becomes Queen and the people rejoice! How did Mary become Queen? Edward VI succeeds Henry VIII- so how did Mary also come to rule? Who's Lady Jane Grey and how does her story intersect with Mary's?
4. Mary and Spain. What will happen to England if their queen, Mary, marries the king of Spain, Philip. Will he have control over England and will the country become part of the Spanish empire? How does the match work out?
5. Mary and her campaign to return England to the Catholic Church. Wasn't a pretty picture...
6. False pregnancies. Why did Mary experience 2 false pregnancies? What is that condition and what effect did it have on her power in England and on her marriage to Philip?
7. Mary I vs her sister, Elizabeth. Did Mary really consider executing her sister? Why? What threat did Elizabeth pose towards her and why was her relationship so tense?
8. Mary's death and the people rejoice! What caused Mary's death and what happened to the English crown afterwards? Did it pass to Elizabeth I smoothly?

The class will end with a discussion of any questions or further comments by the students.
