Class Experience

For the past ten years, Minecraft has been a mainstay in creative gaming for all age groups. With the Java version of the game, not only is there cross play for users on PC, Mac, and Linux to play together, but it opens the game up for mods that change how it is played, and really allow for (somehow) even more customization than the original. Mine, craft, build, explore, fight baddies, and most of all, have fun!

In this ongoing Let's Play club, we will meet once per week and work together to explore and build out our world. No experience is necessary, and players of all levels of experience are welcome. We will play the game in a private Realm, while keeping chat and video to the Zoom call. The structure of what we will end up doing within our private Realm will be, in large part, up to the learners. We will decide on what we do each week together, whether this means building a giant structure together, venturing into the Nether as a party, simply mining out big areas for resources, taking on the legendary Ender Dragon, or maybe even just working on our own personal houses for the session.

As the Realm is private, there is no worry about outside griefing (players attacking each others' projects). Griefing within the server will not be tolerated, either. We're a team in this new Realm, and even if we're not all on a venture at once, we'll all be working together to survive against the blocky terrors of the night.

As this is a Minecraft Java class, a copy of Minecraft Java is required to play, which is available to PC, Mac, and Linux. Java doesn't work on mobile or console.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Minecraft is a simply animated game with fairly low graphics, but at night time the "mobs" come out. These consist of monsters such as zombies, skeletons, spiders, the dreaded creepers, Endermen, and more. If you would like to see if it seems appropriate for your learner, there are several live play videos of the game on YouTube, as well as information on the Minecraft website.
Supply List
Players will need an installed copy of Minecraft Java Edition, which can be found at https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/store/minecraft-java-edition for $26.95. The game can be played on PC, Mac, and Linux.
