Class experience
For the past ten years, Minecraft has been a mainstay in creative gaming for all age groups. With the Java version of the game, not only is there cross play for users on PC, Mac, and Linux to play together, but it opens the game up for mods that change how it is played, and really allow for (somehow) even more customization than the original. I love playing board games and video games, and have played Mario Kart games for 26 years, going all the way back to Nintento 64's release. Mario Kart is part of my very being.
Players will need an installed copy of Minecraft Java Edition, which can be found at https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/store/minecraft-java-edition for $26.95. The game can be played on PC, Mac, and Linux.

Minecraft is a simply animated game with fairly low graphics, but at night time the "mobs" come out. These consist of monsters such as zombies, skeletons, spiders, the dreaded creepers, Endermen, and more. If you would like to see if it seems appropriate for your learner, there are several live play videos of the game on YouTube, as well as information on the Minecraft website.
