In this ongoing Level 5a course children will learn to apply letters and sounds previously learned . Children’s phonic knowledge is developed as they learn alternative graphemes for phonemes they already know.

Description
Class Experience
The overview for weeks 1-10 introduces the graphemes: ay, oy, ie, ea, a_e, i_e, o_e, u_e, e_e, ou, long vowel sounds, ‘ch’ saying /c/ and ‘ch’ saying /sh/. Which alternative graphemes are taught in Level 5? Alternative graphemes are another way of spelling a phoneme that children already know. In Level 3, children learn to represent the /ai/ phoneme using the ‘ai’ spelling, whereas in Level 5 they learn that ‘ay’ can also be used to represent the /ai/ phoneme. Level 5 introduces many alternative graphemes and this Level 5 Overview gives an insight into which graphemes are introduced in weeks 1-10. This complements Letters and Sounds Phase 5.
Extra curricular activities and games will be sent home but it is not essential that they are completed.
Materials or print out information will be sent the Sunday before the class.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Content used for the class is downloaded from the site twinkl.com. Learners will receive any documents needed in PDF format and do not need to create an account or access the website. Thank you In weeks 19-20 we will be using the story based around Christmas celebrations in the UK.
