Get ready to blast off with the Nonet! To introduce learners to the Nonet, I begin this class with theories about the history of this poetry form. During this visual presentation, I encourage learners to respond to the images they see and to share their own impressions with the group. After presenting the history of the Nonet, I demonstrate its syllable structure and share constructed Nonets as examples. As a group, we work together to count the syllables of each line of these examples as well as interpret the themes of these short but powerful pieces of poetry. Learners are invited to participate in the analysis of the Nonets and to ask questions about their defining features. Once we've studied the history and form of the Nonet and reviewed examples of this poetic form, we'll get our creative juices flowing by writing Nonets of our own following the syllable line requirements. Our writing time will be in the form of a workshop with learners working both independently and in collaboration with fellow learners and me as needed. To close the class those learners who would like to are invited to share their creations with the group along with the subjects that inspired their writing. I look forward to exploring this fun poetic form together and can't wait to have you blast off with me! *Please feel free to contact me if the cost of this class (or any of my classes) is a prohibitive factor to enrolling.

Welcome to my classroom!
For 30 years I've helped students appreciate literature, develop their rhetorical and creative writing skills, and better organize and complete tasks. A central goal of my teaching & coaching is empowering students with strategies they can make use of on their own, and in each class I encourage students to participate fully in our sessions together by contributing to class discussions and asking questions.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in English Education, a Master's Degree in Literature, and a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction. My current class offerings include literature studies, book clubs, creative writing and formal essay writing classes, and Executive Function coaching.
When I'm not teaching, I love spending time with my family and traveling! :)
