The Blast into the Past Writing Adventure features popular content through a movie and video game format that keeps students engaged. This has been created for elementary students interested in history who enjoy writing their own stories.

Blast into the Past will help students develop both strong reading comprehension and writing skills while learning interesting historical information. Each lesson will include between 3-5 comprehension questions at the end to check for understanding. There will also be key takeaways to review along with a written assignment that students can work on throughout the week.

Historical Knowledge: Students will learn interesting information about various periods of time during their historical quest for knowledge.

Introduction to Time Travel
* Begin a journey that introduces the main time periods that will be further explored
* Students will embrace their imagination to be able to help visualize the past
* Understand the concept of fictional time travel through the use of time portals
Lesson 2:
Introduction to Storytelling
* Understand the key elements of a story consisting of characters, setting, plot, conflict, resolution
* Explore the creative aspects of storytelling including developing your own characters
* Practice storytelling techniques that may include a detailed setting, surprising plot twists, etc
Lesson 3:
The Medieval Times
* Understand different types of people from the medieval era including their activities and forms of entertainment
* Identify key architectural styles, modes of transportation, and any other unique aspects of life during the time period
* Describe the titles and occupations of people in the Middle Ages based on their social status
Lesson 4:
The Age of Dinosaurs
* Understand the characteristics of dinosaurs, including their physical features and extinction
* Identify the three periods of the era and the different types of dinosaurs that lived during each period
* Students will gain knowledge of unique characteristics of various dinosaurs including their diets, habits, and physical features

Words appear on the screen during the adventure and voice read-aloud options occur throughout the videos to help accomodate English speakers of other languages.
