Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
I also have this same class for ages of 7-11

It's important to learn about and discuss difficult events like the Tulsa Race Riot. This event destroyed thousands of black lives. It's also vital to talk about how Africans Americans overcame such atrocities.
In this class, students will learn about Black Wall Street, which was once a flourishing black community that eventually ended due to racial terrorism. Students will learn about how Black business owners thrived and rose to success in their community. Many of its' residents were either formally enslaved or were descendants of those enslaved. However, it did not let that stop them from becoming entrepreneurs and rising to the top. Students will know how the Tulsa Race Massacre destroyed that in less than three days, affecting thousands of black residents. We will have discussions about racial violence and oppression. Students will understand how that destroyed years of black success within the their community.

By the end of class, students will understand:
- What Black Wall Street was
- How racial violence affected lives (Especially during the 1920's)
- The Tulsa Race Riot
- How the Black Community overcame it

Sometimes classes can go over 5 minutes. I allow each student, if they chose, to ask questions and answer questions. I also allow them to respectfully express their feelings and thoughts.

If you would like to request a certain time or date, please let me know :)
