US Grade 2 - 5
💞Students will be taught in a lecture and discussion style that uses Nearpod! 💞We will talk about the significance of African American hair through the centuries, essentially seeing the events or time periods from the perspective of hair! We will start with African hair styles, move on to slavery, the roaring twenties, civil rights/black power movements, infamous court cases, pop culture, what America is seeing now in terms of natural hair and natural hair appreciation!
Learning Goals
Students will understand more on why African American hair is often criticized and its affects.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
This course is considered a politically sensitive topic because we are talking about the politicization of African American hair. When African Americans wore their hair anyway that was not in the Eurocentric fashion, it was seen as almost a disrespect and a statement African Americans were trying to make.
Supply List
The code for the nearpod lesson will be posted a few minutes before the class is scheduled to start. That way parents can assist in setting up their learners. Nearpod is used as a interactive power point presentation that will allow students to answer questions and collaborate with each other.
