US Grade 3 - 7
Students will be engaged in a literary and autobiographical investigation of a mystery person (Tupac Shakur). Modes of study/investigation will include his poetry, music, and interviews. We will be studying the real life of a controversial, complicated, and misunderstood human being. One we can learn and possibly draw inspiration from. This unit is devoted to analysis, writing, and reflection. Students will acquire skills that promote careful reading, thorough reflection, and creative writing.
Learning Goals
Determine a theme in a poem, song, interview, or article by analyzing details, such as how challenges are addressed or topics are reflected upon. Summarize the text’s key message.
Examine how a narrator's or speaker's point of view shapes their description of events and ideas.

Parental Guidance
Topics on poverty and violence. The content around violence doesn’t go beyond gun violence in poor communities. I will preface this portion of the course by explaining the importance of being safe/ responsible citizens, who are problem solvers, and positive forces for change in their communities.
