It is very important for African American students to be exposed to books and authors that looks like them. It's important for them to see themselves represented in a positive way. In this course, we will read books to help uplift black girls. We will follow each characters struggles and joy for the next five weeks. Every week we will read and discuss a new text. **All books are age appropriate with no violence or sexual content. All books will touch on the subject of self-love as a black girl. A few of the books selected discusses racism and Jim Crow.
