Bizarre Medicine: Explore High School Anatomy, Biology & Science Through History
Class experience
Cannibalism?! Bloodletting?! This class explores some of the strangest and sometimes horrifying medical “cure-alls” throughout history. In the process, we learn about how the body works; the parts (anatomy) and function (physiology). Learners join an interactive lesson using Nearpod.com. Learners will engage in hands-on labeling activities, quizzes, games and discussions on health and disease. An optional study guide will be available to help learners follow along during...
I have over 13 years experience teaching anatomy and physiology, which includes topics (such as wounds, blood, death and drug use) that are sensitive to some learners. At the beginning of class, all learners are made aware that I am open to questions and that the chat is always set to private for any questions or comments. This course is primarily an anatomy class. Sensitive topics such as cannibalism and body modification will be approached from an anatomy-physiology-factual standpoint.
An optional study guide can be downloaded or printed out before class to help the learner follow along in lecture. Study guides can be completed during class time.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Images and discussion around surgeries, wounds and/or blood can be graphic in nature. The topic of cannibalism, addiction, death and excrement may be disturbing to some learners.
