Class Experience
The Colosseum, Julius Caesar, the Hagia Sophia, Constantine the Great...stately names and buildings that forever remind us of the glory and grandeur of Ancient Rome. But what about eating ostrich brains for desert, the emperor who scandalized society by marrying an actress (sound familiar?), or using gladiator sweat as perfume? Students will learn a variety of unusual and obscure details about the society of the ancient and medieval Roman Empire.
After the session, students are encouraged to further explore other interesting facts about the Romans!
Any related note-taking supplies should the learners wish to take notes.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
This session is perfect for anyone interested in strange or unusual aspects of history, or just history in general. The tidbits discussed here are mostly sedate compared to some of the salacious stories we've probably heard about Ancient Rome, but some content may be better suited for older students. However, mature students of younger age are welcome with parent/guardian approval.
