Class Experience

NO LIVE MEETINGS 

In this course we will learn what is a Cryptocurrency. Students will be given 100K virtual money to invest in the Crypto simulation game.  Students will learn how to buy, sell and trade Cryptos and where the Cryptocurrency stored.   This class will be structured on discussion format, worksheet, websites, slides and video clips.  No previous experience is needed.  Cryptocurrency has increased a lot in popularity in recent years. However, most people buy these currencies as an investment, hoping that they will go up in value, rather than using them to buy things online. Students will learn the possibility of how they will be purchasing things in the future. 

Cryptocurrency is always in the news.  It is very important that we stay up-to-date on events. 
Each week the students will find a current event article about Cryptocurrency, write a one paragraph summarization to upload to the Outschool classroom for discussion.

Lesson 1 - What is Cryptocurrency
Understand what fiat money is and where it gains its value
Explain what cryptocurrency is and how it works
Identify the pros and cons of bitcoin
Explain how blockchain technology works

Activity - Current event article of how Cryptocurrency will shape our financial world in the future. 

Lesson 2 - Digging Deeper Into Cryptocurrency
Summarize what cryptocurrency mining is and how it impacts the environment
Compare and contrast proof of work and proof of stake verification methods
Explain what factors impact the value of cryptocurrency
Analyze the risks of using cryptocurrency as a form of payment in completing transactions

Activity - Students will create a timeline of the history of money.  Students are encouraged to add creative futuristic currency.  

Lesson 3 - Cryptocurrency in Action
Compare cryptocurrencies 
Explain how to buy cryptocurrencies
List the pros and cons of hard and soft wallets
Describe how to store cryptocurrencies using hard and soft wallets

Activity - Students will research the government's regulations on digital money and provide a "for" or "against" the government regulated cryptocurrency.  

Lesson 4 - Speculating in Cryptocurrency
Compare and contrast speculation and investing
Critique the behavioral strategies involved in cryptocurrency marketing
Analyze multiple investing options that should be considered before buying cryptocurrency
Synthesize information to decide whether or not a person should buy cryptocurrency

I spent a week with extensive interaction on the NYSE trading floor. My continue education in financial literacy has included Alt Coins - Crypto.  As young learners today, leaders of tomorrow, students will be utilizing these investment / payment methods.
