Class Experience

Butterflies are beautiful, brightly colored insects. They share characteristics of moths. We love to watch them fly around and land on flowers and other objects. When you see a butterfly, do you ever wonder what is its purpose? What about how did it become a butterfly? In this course, you will explore the role that butterflies play in our environment. You will also learn about the parts of a butterfly along with the four phases of the butterfly life cycle. The scientific method will be discussed and applied as you watch a real life butterfly life cycle science experiment where a Painted Lady Butterfly is born. Students will have the opportunity to interact with me and other students by asking questions. No previous experience or knowledge of butterflies is needed.

Learning Goals

Students will increase their knowledge of the scientific method and their understanding of butterflies and the butterfly life cycle.

Hello everyone! My name is Lisa Sims and I am the Founder of Lisa Teach Me, which helps parents and caregivers homeschool their neurodiverse and special needs children. I have been unschooling homeschooling my oldest autistic son for five years and my youngest neurotypical son for three years.

For the past fifteen years, I have taught online software and web development technology courses for various universities. Prior to teaching online, I worked in software development for over twenty-five years in various size companies in roles such as programmer analyst, web developer, consultant, etc. During my software development career, I discovered my passion for education and entrepreneurship. I also discovered my passion for writing and became an author of eight books.

My teaching philosophy is simple: Every child is reachable and teachable. I am a creative, out-of-the-box thinker who loves technology. I believe everyone learns at their own pace and in their own way. Being a special needs mother has taught me this which is reflected in my teaching style.

When I'm not teaching or working on my small business, I enjoy podcasting, reading, writing books, researching technology, and spending time with my family.
