What is biodiversity and why is it important for our survival? Students will explore and document the diversity of life through the lens of their mobile phone--there is more to life than meets the eye!

Class experience

In this course students will - 

-Define biodiversity and understand key threats to our biodiversity. 
-Learn why scientists collect and the importance of natural history collections. 
-Learn about digitization of our biodiversity in collections and in the field. 
-Learn the basics of macro photography using a mobile phone as well as various options for attachments. 
-Be introduced to citizen science and the collecting of data. 
-Engage in a virtual biodiversity citizen science project/contribute to our own iNaturalist Project page.

  
Resources, links, and instructions in accessing materials and learning modules will be provided at start of course.
While most Smartphones have good zoom capabilities it is recommended that you also consider the many len attachments for Smartphones on the market.  Prices can range from $15.00 and up.
