Description

Class Experience

Students will learn about the different biomes and their characteristics, including terrestrial (cold and warm) and aquatic (fresh and salt water), as well as food chains, food webs, and what affects populations of animals. Students will also learn about ocean features (including deep sea and beaches), land and ocean structures, erosion, weathering, and deposition.
I am a 5th grade teacher, and have taught middle school science for 8 years from 6-8th grade. I am licensed as a science teacher from 6-12 grade, with a Masters in Science Education. I like making learning relate to real world experiences so students can connect to material easier than standard memorization. I review in a flow pattern that starts with basic information and expands into complex information to assist students with retention.
Students will be provided weekly activities for enrichment. While not mandatory for completion, they will complement each weeks' instructional video and help students be successful in the weekly quiz and break out room.
Students will be provided hand-outs for notes to keep for their possession each week, along with printable resources for activities. Students will also need a pencil to complete activities.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Students will complete a break out room each week, requiring information from the week's instructional video. Completion of the break out room will demonstrate mastery of each week's content.
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Students will participate in virtual activities found on breakoutedu.com and kahoot.com. Direct links to games will be provided, however students have ability to play other games on these sites. Parental guidance is advised.
Students will be given weekly links to break out rooms, and other resources, including SuperScience!. Class code will be provided in the classroom discussion board for related content.
